Proclamation of National Emergency in Pakistan
Pakistan has declared a national emergency due to the grasshopper attack. Some states not only in Pakistan but also in India are under the target of locust party.
Thousands of locusts coming in thousands ruin crores of crores of rupees within a few hours. India's neighboring Pakistan has declared a national emergency due to the grasshopper attack. Locust teams are ruining crops on a large scale, increasing the risk of food insecurity.
According to the Pakistan minister, "In the last two decades we have been facing severe attacks of grasshopper contingents. We have decided to declare a national emergency to deal with this threat."
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the National Action Plan to tackle the locust attack. On the other hand, the Minister of National Food Security in the Parliament of Pakistan said, "The locust attack is unprecedented and worrisome." He said that due to limited resources, the authorities had to struggle a lot to deal with locusts. Locusts that flew from Iran to Pakistan in June have damaged the agricultural sector on a large scale.
The locust has damaged cotton, wheat, maize and other crops in Pakistan's south-west districts. The locust party has reached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by flying from Sindh. The sluggish response from the authorities and favorable weather has given the locusts the opportunity to breed due to which they are attacking crops from the desert areas and nearby towns.
Locust teams from Pakistan have also damaged crops in some districts of the Indian state of Rajasthan, Punjab and Gujarat. After the loss of crores of crores of rupees due to these locust parties in the western districts of Rajasthan, the Rajasthan government has now sought a report of the loss from the Agriculture Department.
On the other hand, vigilance is also being taken in Punjab on the locust party. After the locusts arrived in Fazilka, Punjab, the Agriculture Department tried to escape by spraying them. In Gujarat also, there was an attack of locusts in December in which 25 thousand hectare crops of two districts were destroyed.
The Gujarat government has also announced a compensation of Rs 31 crore to the affected farmers. The grasshopper can fly up to 150 kilometers in a day. It can eat grains equal to its weight in a day. However, India took precautionary measures and sprayed the medicine at the right time so that the damage could be minimized.
